A special election has been called for State House Districts 16, 65 and
158. We need candidates and, especially in the 16th and 65th
districts, people to nominate them.
- District 16 is in St. Charles County. It was Carl Bearden's seat.
- District 65 is in St. Louis. It was Fred Kratky's seat.
- District 158 is in Cape Girardeau. It was Nathan Cooper's seat.
Here's what's involved.
- You call Greg Tlapek at 877-868-3487 by this Friday so we can
proceed.
You don't have to be the candidate. You can be the committee that
nominates the candidate.
- We find a candidate you're satisfied can represent the Party.
Everything can be done over the phone and by mail. You fill out a
"Certificate of Nomination" form which will be provided for you and get
the form notarized.
- The candidate files a declaration of candidacy and pays a $50
filing fee.
The candidate can file the paperwork by mail and the filing fee is paid
to the Missouri Libertarian Party.
For special elections, there is no primary election. The parties
themselves get to decide who's going to be on the ballot. This is one
of the main reasons we ask you to file at the county clerk's office as
a committeeman or committeewoman in March of even numbered years. This
process is made easier, and we're more likely to get candidates if
you've done so, also.
The special election will be held concurrent with the presidential
primary on February 5. The deadline to find a candidate is November
15. You need to contact Greg by this Friday, the 7th of September.
