Libertarian Doug Burlison Wins Springfield City Council Seat

As the saying goes, "All politics is local"... and now, a long-time
Libertarian has brought that phrase closer to home.
Doug Burlison won a City Council seat this week, beating an incumbent
with more resources and contacts, and he did it by running on his
principles - along with his efforts to have the city of Springfield,
Missouri investigated by the State Auditors' Office. That issue,
alone, was an endeavor worth noting, as it has never been done on such
a scale in the city's history. It was also likely a factor that helped
him win the Council seat, as almost eight thousand voters signed the
audit petitions.
Doug Burlison has accomplished something here... he's brought the core
ideals of Libertarianism - accountability, fiscal conservativism, and
limited government - to the third-largest city in the state of
Missouri. And he did it with the help of ordinary, working people -
like himself. Doug punches a time clock... he isn't a member of the
"good ol' boy"/business-as-usual club. And like a true statesman, he
will serve the people of his city with a truly objective approach that
doesn't take favors from anyone.
Doug was the former Chairman of the Greene County Libertarian Party, a
position for which he nominated me as his replacement - and we in the
local party couldn't be more proud of our friend and fellow believer
in liberty.
