I want to publicly thank Dr. Pakko for an outstanding job in the
organization of the St. Louis Libertarian Caucus. It was a huge
success, drawing those as far away as Chicago, Illinois. We had a
packed house, with attendance being somewhere in the 70's, I believe.
I'm not sure, but I think that is a record for any local organization
in the Missouri Libertarian Party. Way to go Michael!
This meeting had so many good points, that I feel compelled to tell
you all about it.
We had a total of 10 Libertarians from the state of Illinois attend.
We had libertarians from 5 different Missouri counties. Several of
the people running for offices under the Libertarian banner were
present and spoke about their campaign, their issues to address and
concerns.
I can honestly say, that our emcee for the event, Lloyd Sloan, did an
outstanding job. Who says you can't corral a room full of cats? I
just wish this event would have been taped for all to enjoy. Not only
did Lloyd present the guest speakers in a very charismatic way, he
added humor and joy for all of us. He actually brought kazoos along
and formed a band. At three different times throughout the event, he
and his kazoo band lead us into singing. Yep, you heard me correctly,
we (most of us) were singing along. Simple things in life can be so
rewarding to the soul, a fuzzy feel good all over kind of thing.
Lloyd............thank you again for a job well done.
The first guest speaker was our very own Missouri National LP
representative, Bob Sullentrup, LNC Secretary. The talents he brought
to the Missouri Libertarian Party as Chair and Secretary, are now
being utilized at the National level. He brought to the meeting an
extremely good presentation, but none of us would expect anything less
of his fight for freedom. He has shown in the past his deep regard
for liberty, and he did a wonderful job of bringing his expertise home
to Missouri. Thank you Mr. Sullentrup for your participation,
support, and knowledge you brought to this meeting.
Our third speaker was none other than Dr. Michael Pakko, Chair of the
St. Louis County Libertarian Party. His speech was on what each
individual can do, to get involved in community activities. Is anyone
in the MOLP into cloning? If so, we need a lot more of him.
Tamara Millay was our next speaker. She spoke of how important it is
to run for a political office, why you should run for office, and what
to expect. We can all learn valuable lessons from Tamara and her
efforts to promote freedom. Tamara, a big hug and a round of applause
for all you have done for the Missouri Libertarian Party.
Debbie Hopper from Mothers Against the Draft and a National Committee
Member of the Constitution Party, was also present. We have become
fast friends in the past several months, and are working closely with
smoking ban issues in the St. Louis Metro area. She made a plea for
volunteers to assist her and I in a fight to overturn a smoking ban in
Ballwin, Missouri. Her efforts in the fight for liberty must not go
unnoticed by the Missouri LP. I meet friends easily, but I consider
her a lifelong friend. Please join me in saluting an outstanding
individual in the pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness.
Tim Lee, from the Show Me Institute, was also present and spoke to us
about the newly formed "liberty think tank" in St. Louis. I urge you
all to get involved in this organization, if possible.
United we stand, divided we fall. This event proved that the
Libertarian Party has the answers to all of our political woes. And
by joining up with other organizations and coalition groups, we can
make a difference, we can make a positive impact, we CAN change the
world we live in, we CAN protect our liberties and freedom.
Yours in Liberty,
Darla Maloney
