I am happy to report that I was nominated in the St. Joseph City Primary Election
as a candidate in the non-partisan 3rd District City Council race.
It was a very light turnout, but the incumbent only beat me by 56 votes out of
1006.
I have run a very positive campaign, but stressed the issues I disagreed with the
incumbent.
I have knocked on nearly 1000 doors with my campaign cards and have over 150
yard signs up in the 20% of St. Joseph that comprises my district. I believe I have
more signs up than the incumbent.
Incumbent Charles Jones 427 votes (42%)
Mike A. Bozarth 371 votes (37%)
Ed Bryson 208 votes (21%)
Media coverage has been good. The weekly Saint Joseph Telegraph that I have
written a column for 13 years ran a feature on the front page. The large daily
St. Joseph News Press ran my picture and a nice story Feb. 26th. I had advance
coverage on KFEQ 680-am radio including an appearance on the callin "Barry Birr
Show"--Bryson and myself went on the program, but Jones refused. I was on
KQTV (ABC) Channel 2 three times in advance of the primary.
Folks, this is just the primary, but it feels damn good to be on the winning side
of things for a change!
