Doug Burlison Runs Competitive Springfield City Council Campaign

Dear Friends of Liberty,

It appears that the final results are in, and my opponent has narrowly won re-election to another term. That's the bad news. The good news is that out of all of the challengers in this election, my campaign has achieved the highest vote total and the narrowest margin of defeat. In other words, the perennial libertarian candidate outperformed a former state legislator, a long-time community activist and reverend, a local business owner, and the endorsee of municipal labor unions. This campaign achieved a higher level of professionalism and had more outside-the-party support than any of my previous attempts. My general feeling at this point is that political progress has been made and the stage is set for the next opportunity--whatever that may be. The final tally is Mary Collette-6471 votes or 54.38% to Doug Burlison-5428 votes or 45.62%. I had tremendous support from local libertarians, family, and friends...and am humbled by the generosity of each and every one. To you who have sacrificed to help, I will tell you this: George Washington lost most every major battle except for the one that counted the most. Even through defeat he never gave up, and that is the same strategy I started a long time ago in 1994, and continue to this day. Thanks again and...

Until next time,
Doug Burlison
