Candidate Profile: Mark "MAJIC" Jones, Libertarian for Greene County Associate Commissioner District 1

Mark "MAJIC" Jones understands the problems of small business owners -- he's one himself. After years of dealing with ever more intrusive and expensive government, he's stepped forward to make a difference by running for a county commission seat. "If I've learned nothing else from operating MAJIC Painting, it's that you have to live within your means," says Jones. "But most politicians don't see it that way -- they figure that the taxpayer can always cough up a little more, so why make difficult decisions?"

Jones is basing his campaign on good old fashioned horse sense -- "we need a complete audit of spending to find the waste and inefficiency," he says -- and on innovative ideas that are changing the nature of the debate over government spending in Greene County. One such proposal is a 10% "bounty" on money saved by county departments when they deliver the same services at a lower cost. "If a work unit finds a way to save the taxpayers $100,000 without reducing the quality of services, a $10,000 salary bonus is well worth it. It's time government started rewarding employees for productivity instead of for building waste into the system."
