Libertarian Party National Convention

The 2004 Libertarian Party Presidential-Nominating National Convention will take place over the Memorial Day Weekend at the beautiful Atlanta Marriott Marquis Hotel in downtown Atlanta, Georgia.

See www.lp.org for more details and to register.

St. Louis County Chair and two-time US Senate candidate from Missouri, Tamara Millay, is running for the vice-presidential nomination.

Missouri Libertarian Party Chair Bob Sullentrup has announced for the position of Secretary of the Libertarian Party National Committee (LNC).

Missouri has slots available for 24 convention delegates and has never used all of its slots in the past. This year, however, the delegation may be full with 22 slots having been assigned as of March 21. Eight alternates are on the list.

The plans of convention goers can change, however, and make slots available. Contact Bob Sullentrup at rwsully@charter.net to inquire about becoming a member or alternate to the Missouri delegation.

The kick-off event for the convention will be the welcoming on Thursday evening, May 27. Official Business will begin on Friday morning, May 28, and run through the afternoon of Monday, May 31.

The biggest business item for delegates will be the nomination of our 2004 Presidential and Vice-presidential Candidates, which will take place on Sunday. The Gala Banquet that evening will honor our nominees.

In addition to the Business Sessions, there will be a whole weekend of Great Speakers: at all the Meal Events, some in the Main Convention Hall (where the business takes place) and at the various Workshops that take place concurrent with the Business Sessions.

And you won't want to miss the "Red, Rock and Blues" Concert on Friday night featuring the fabulous Jimmie Vaughan plus other great musicians. And you can expect musicians at the Receptions, too.

Special events include:

“Libertarian Victory School”: This is an All-Day Intensive/Interactive Candidate/Campaign Training Workshop which will take place on Thursday May 27 from 9am to 5pm. This is the best training of this kind ever at a National Convention and a “must” for any candidate or campaign manager interested in winning. The cost is $100 for a candidate or a campaign manger, or $150 for a candidate/campaign manager duo. Space is limited.

“Welcome” Reception: The Convention kicks off with the “Welcome” Reception on Thursday night on the spacious Skyline Level (12th floor), which is open to the beautiful atrium (there is also outside balcony space). This is a chance to mingle with your fellow Libertarians before things really get started the next morning. There will be a no-host bar and some food (maybe a dessert buffet) and there will also be some musical acts performing. This event is included in all but the Basic Package.

“Red, Rock & Blues” Concert: On Friday night you won’t want to miss the Red, Rock & Blues Concert with our featured headliner, the fabulous multi-Grammy-Award-winning Jimmie Vaughan Also on the bill is the extraordinary Pennsylvania rock band Poker Face Added to the lineup is California LP activist, Dan Litwin, a very talented singer, songwriter and quite excellent guitarist. The cost for this awesome Concert is only $25 and will be open to the public and advertised as a local concert event.

Awards: The LP traditionally honors some of our exemplary activists with special Awards which are presented at the Gala Banquet. All LP members are eligible to vote!

“Remembrance”: At some point during the Convention we will be remembering and honoring our Libertarian friends who have passed on. The most prominent in this category is (very sadly) Ron Crickenberger. Missouri’s Own George Mussmann will be a part of the remembrance.
