Letters to the Editor

12-6-2002

Mr. Bob Sullentrup:

My name is Vern Davidson, Jr. and I am 30 years old. I am a full-time mail processing clerk and a US Army Reservist. I am married and have two boys. My 12 year old, Cody, lives with my ex-wife in Malden, MO and C.J., age 6, is my stepson.

I firmly believe in the ideals of the Libertarian Party and would very much like to see us replace the swiftly disintegrating Socialist Party, which the Democratic Party has become. I believe that we have a greater opportunity to accomplish this than ever before. The days of people voting for a candidate are over; most people simply vote against the other candidate.

It is time for something better than a choice between the "lesser of two evils". The Libertarian Party is what the American people are looking for.

The Libertarian Party faces one great challenge. This is breaking the American people's illusion that a vote for a "third party" is a wasted vote. If this illusion were true, any vote for a losing candidate is wasted. This vision, coupled with lost faith in American politics, is why so few Americans vote today.

I believe in hard work and equally great rewards. I have earned what little I have. I believe that it is possible to reverse the damage done by the far left and far right.

Being an employee of the US Postal Service, I know that pay for service works, if the bureaucracy of government is barred. Being a member of the APWU, I know that the APWU is a must for employees and patrons, under the current system.

I am willing to help the Libertarian Party succeed in whatever way I can. Thanks.

Vern Davidson, Jr.

Dear Vern:

Thank you so much for your support. We will put you in touch with other Libertarians in and around Scott City. For starters, Greg Tlapek our Executive Director lives less than 10 miles from you. Toll free 877-Vote-4-Us.

Meanwhile, I voted for Harry Browne in 2000 who represented my views on how government should be run.

Others voted for George Bush, thinking they would get limited government. Instead, Bush increased spending to $1.96T, up $120B over Clinton's last budget of $1.84T. Bush’s second budget was $2.12T.

Do the math. For every family of size four in America, Bush spent $150/month more than Clinton in his first year. In his second year, he piled on an additional $200/month. My family doesn't have an extra $350/month. But now I'm going to have to pay for that spending. You are going to have to pay as well. So too will our children and grandchildren.

I feel sorry for those millions of Americans who voted for Bush in 2000. They utterly wasted their votes.
