Call for Libertarian State Committee MembersThe time is upon us to select new MO Libertarian Party State Committee members. Missouri statue 115.603 proscribes that each established political party will have a State Committee and that this committee will meet once per year. The MO Libertarian Party is one of three established political parties in the state. Each of the 34 state senatorial districts is entitled to two State Committee members. In addition, the State Committee has a chair, vice-chair, secretary and treasurer, bringing the total possible members to 72. The MO Libertarian Party elected its state officers on August 24, 2001. These terms will run through 2003 when elections will be held at the state convention scheduled for June 6, 2003. These officers serve not only on the State Committee, but also as officers of the Executive Committee. The Executive Committee, a creation of the MO Libertarian Party Bylaws, has two representatives and two alternates from each of the nine US Representative districts. The statues even proscribe the date on which the State Committee is to be selected. The Senatorial District Committee members shall meet and select two registered voters from each district, (one a man, one a woman) as State Committee members on the Saturday after the third Tuesday in November, (the 23rd for 2002). Contact your county chair for the time and place of your Senatorial District Committee meeting. If your county is not organized, call Executive Director Greg Tlapek at 877-Vote-4-Us or e-mail him at gtlaptek@aol.com. In the past, it has been difficult for the MO Libertarian Party to field a quorum at State Committee meetings. However, a codicil in the MO Libertarian Party Bylaws allows State Committee members to participate via telephone. In 2001, cell phones produced a quorum. Accordingly, State Committee members are expected to attend the annual MO Libertarian Party convention. Report new State Committee members to Jim Higgins, higginslp@aol.com or 314-997-0291. See you at the 2003 Convention! |
