Web, Radio, Print, Political Activists Extend LP Influence

Brett Rosen works in radio, Mitch Moore uses a print medium, Paul Kientzy hosts a website and George Mussmann uses a political appointment. What do all these, and more MO LP members have in common? They all promote Liberty outside the Libertarian Party.

Mitch Moore has a column in Columbia’s Red Pages, a free advertising supplement found in and around Columbia. Mitch’s articles create interest in the Red Pages according to publisher Mike Dundon, making it more likely the locals will pick it up.

Bill Wayne
Bill Wayne has a recurring letter to the editor in the Warrensburg Gazette. He will soon write for a start-up publication in Warrensburg called the Free Press. Bill has published 128 articles since Memorial Day 1999. See www.olddrum.net.

Chip Taylor produces a news summary which he distributes daily over the Internet. Chip tailors the items to include controversies, encroachments on freedom, government malfeasance, corruption and ineptitude. To subscribe, e-mail Chip at ctaylor@missouriliberty.com.

Paul Kientzy, a St. Charles County college student, manages www.poli-sigh.com. There you can find essays and opinion on issues involving Liberty. Paul is looking for guest writers; e-mail him at pk266@studentmail.umsl.edu or paul@poli-sigh.com.

Three of our activists have radio talk shows, all currently on WGNU 920 AM, including:

  • Brett Rosen, Thursdays from 4-6, providing his brand of "head-thumping talk radio
  • Dan Byington, Thursdays from 11am-noon
  • Lloyd, the “Sloan Ranger”, Tuesdays, 10pm-midnite

A 30-second spot for the Libertarian Party runs during Brett Rosen’s second hour.

Others are active in the political arena as well:

  • George Mussmann is chair of the O’Fallon city Public Works Commission
  • Mitch Moore serves on the Columbia Substance Abuse Advisory Commission
  • Mike McDonald is a recently retired Secretary of a Planning and Zoning Board,
  • Larry Barnhart holds a spot on the Missouri Citizen’s Commission on Compensation of Elected Officials.
  • Steve Kohl is running for his third term on the Marquand/Zion R6 School Board in April.

Finally, St. Louis county chair Dick Illyes collaborates with other groups to prevent using taxpayer funds for the new ballpark, as well as the string of handouts that will queue up if the ballpork becomes a reality.

Others across the state promote liberty in simple ways such as talking to friends and neighbors and writing letters to the editor. Others help in major ways such as running for office as Libertarians. Liberty needs them all, and Show-Me Freedom salutes their initiative.
