Missouri Libertarian Party Endorses Proposition C

The Missouri Libertarian Party passed a resolution to endorse
Proposition C, the Healthcare Freedom Act, which is a referendum on the
August 3rd primary ballot. Proposition C is a first in the nation
opportunity for Missouri voters to push back against some of the
blatantly unconstitutional provisions of the Obamacare legislation,
said Dr. Cisse Spragins, Missouri LP state chair.

Former Missouri LP State Chair Phil Horras passes unexpectedly May 27th

Phillip Horras, age 54, of
Springfield, Mo. died unexpectedly on May 27, 2010. Phil was a former state
chair of the Missouri Libertarian Party and a former Libertarian candidate for
Lt. Governor. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Barbara, son Timothy of
Philadelphia, PA, daughter Amelia and son Tyler, both of the home.

Former Missouri LP Executive Director Bill Johnson runs for Governor of Alabama

Many of the party faithful will remember Bill Johnson who served as Missouri
Libertarian Party Executive Director in the mid 1990’s as well as running
for the U. S. Senate in 1994. As far as I can find in the records, he still
holds the honor of receiving the most votes for any Missouri Libertarian
candidate statewide, 81,264 or 4 ½% of the total votes cast.

Missouri Sovereignty and Health Care Reform

Federal health care reform legislation will likely reach final passage and
be signed into law by President Obama early in 2010. There has been growing
opposition to this massive take over of health care by the federal government
which will not stop when the bill is signed into law. Opposition to the
federalization of health care will just move from Congress to State

people are interested in hearing the Libertarian message of individual liberty,

Stone Announces For Congress, Slams Clay's Obamacare Vote

To some Americans, House passage of the Affordable Health Care for America
Act represented necessary progress toward reform of a health care system which
prices the nation's poorest out of the market. To others, it represented yet
another lost opportunity to put market values back into the health care

Elected Libertarian leads repeal of anti-homosexual law in Missouri

On September 8, at my urging, our City Council (of which I am a member)
repealed a local ordinance that prohibited homosexuals from "soliciting" each
other. In other words, it was O.K. to put the "heterosexual moves" on a member
of the opposite sex, but if you're gay, any talk about sex could've invited
punitive measures...until now.

in Independence (Sept 4-7) the Libertarian Party conducted a “penny poll” on
health care. In the question, posted on a large sign, attendees were asked if

Did you receive a Show Me Freedom Newsletter in the mail?

Earlier this month the Missouri Libertarian Party published our Show Me
Freedom Newsletter. The newsletter was printed newspaper style with eight pages
and mailed to over 3,000 Missourians. A total of 5,000 copies were printed. The
2,000 extra are being handed out at the State Fair, County Fairs and other
outreach events.

Missouri LP Instrumental in Resolution of Controversial MIAC Report
(August 2, 2009)
The Missouri Information Analysis Center (MIAC) issued a “Strategic Report”
on February 20th, 2009, which became known to the public in the second week of
March. MIAC is a “fusion center” wherein federal, state, and local law
enforcement officials work together and share information with the stated
mission to combat terrorism and crime. The Centers began after 9/11 and are
funded in part by the Department of Homeland Security. The internal document
designed for law enforcement education purposes inaccurately and dangerously
implied that among the indicators of possible involvement in extremist,
militant militia activity is support for the Libertarian Party.

St. Charles County Libertarians support Kenneth Wells in fight for Medical Marijuana
(June 23, 2009)
Kenneth Wells, a St. Charles County resident with severe medical issues and
pain from a stroke incurred in 1983 was charged with growing marijuana when it
was found in his basement after his home burned down on January 16, 2008.
Mr. Wells is now facing up to 15 years in prison if convicted.

Protest Against NAIS at USDA Listening Session June 9th

Farmers, Ranchers and Consumers will hold a protest of the NAIS - National
Animal ID System - on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 from 8 am to 12 noon. The protest
will run concurrently with the USDA NAIS listening session at Truman Hotel &

Missouri Ranked Sixth in new Personal and Economic Freedom Index

The Mercatus Center at Geogre Mason University has released a new Index of
Personal and Economic Freedom in the 50 U.S. states. Missouri ranked
sixth overall as having the most personal and economic freedom, with New
Hampshire, Colorado, South Dakota, Idaha and Texas finishing 1 through 5. The
five states with the least personal and economic freedom were Maryland,
California, Rhode Island, New Jersey and New York.

Johnson County (MO) Libertarians led a successful grass-roots campaign to
block county-wide planning and zoning. County Libertarian Party Chairman Bill

St. Louis Libertarian Party Picnic Saturday September 13th noon-4PM

for its annual picnic. The burgers, etc., are on us, but bring something if you
like. This will be an informal social event -- an opportunity to meet
candidates, learn about the party, talk politics with other freedom lovers, and
maybe work in some horseshoes or volleyball.

Missouri Citizens for Property Rights Withdraws Suit Against Secretary of State

Today, Missouri Citizens for Property Rights (MO-CPR) announced that they
were withdrawing their lawsuit challenging the Secretary of State's declaration
that their eminent domain petition was insufficient to qualify for the November
ballot.

Missouri Citizens for Property Rights to File Suit to Gain Ballot Access

Missouri Citizens for Property Rights announced today that it intends to
challenge the Missouri Secretary of State's Tuesday ruling that it has not
submitted enough valid signatures for its two constitutional amendments to
appear on the November ballot.

War On Our Rights!

On May 12 a group of libertarians celebrated Thomas Jefferson’s birthday by
dancing in his memorial at the stroke of midnight. They wore headphones and
danced silently as to not violate any park noise codes. However, park security
immediately contacted local authorities, and the event was raided.

Libertarian Dime Podcast: Missouri LP State Chair on National LP Convention

Ballot Access Procedures Could Improve

applaud the Missouri House for passing SB 797. The bill, which was introduced
by Democratic Senator Joan Bray, improves the procedures for the petition to

Missouri Farm Bureau are shared by myself and many others across the state that
are aware of their activities. Most people don't realize that American Farm
Bureau was instrumental in the development of NAIS, or the National Animal

2008 Missouri LP Karl Wetzel and Champion of Freedom Awards

The Missouri Libertarian Party presented its annual awards during the 2008
Heartland Libertarian Conference in Kansas City April 5th. John Schultz,
Missouri Libertarian Party Secretary and Boone County Libertarian Party Chair,
was presented with our highest honor, the Karl Wetzel Award. Michael Hurley,
Erik Buck, Bill Wayne, Jim Givens and Kevin Babcock were presented with
Champion of Freedom Awards.

2008 Heartland Libertarian Conference - A Resounding Success

The 2008 Heartland Libertarian Conference held in Kansas City, MO April
4th-5th was a resounding success. There were 130 people attending the
conference and even some national media. Both CNN and the Atlanta Journal
Consitution reported on the conference along with a Kansas City NPR station.

There Oughta Be a Law

There was an interesting little flier in the local Sunday newspaper this
week. It was a one-page piece of card stock from State Representative Sara
Lampe entitled, “There Oughta Be a Law.” Her premise is that she represents her
constituents and that she wants to know what they feel should be enacted.

Libertarian Dime Podcast: Missouri LP State Chair Interview

of libertarianism as applied to politics, religion, science, and culture. The
show is hosted by Shane Brady and Jonathan Farr. Shane, a libertarian, recently
moved to Missouri from Kansas and Jonathan is a libertarian living in New
Mexico. My interview starts 10-15 minutes into the podcast and lasts over an

2008 Heartland Libertarian Conference - Libertarian Presidential Candidate Debate

Six of the seventeen candidates for the Libertarian Party Presidential
nomination participated in a debate at the 2008 Heartland Libertarian
Conference in Kansas City April 5th. In his keynote address, former Republican
Congressman Bob Barr, who switched to the Libertarian Party in 2006 and now
serves on the Libertarian Party National Committee, announced the formation of
an exploratory committee for a possible run for President as a Libertarian.

MO-CPR Says Missouri Supreme Court Decision Shows Need for Constitutional Changes

Missouri Citizens for Property Rights' chairman Ron Calzone made the
following statement regarding the Missouri Supreme Court's decision in the case
of Arnold v. Tourkakis: "My heart goes out to Homer and his wife, who are now a
step closer to having a quarter-century of hard work destroyed by city
bulldozers. The high court ignored the clear statement in Article I Section 28
that 'private property shall not be taken for private use with or without
compensation' as Missourian's fundamental protection against private use
eminent domain."

Small College Libertarian Group Makes Big Impact

Just over six months ago there was no College Libertarian Group at Truman
State University. The year before I thought I could further my political goals
through the College Democrats or College Republicans depending on the issue.
After going to a couple meetings I found that both groups were ineffective and
they rejected my alternative beliefs.

Pardon My Pique, But It’s OUR Money!!

Today’s headlines in the Springfield, MO daily newspaper provide a perfect
example of why there needs to be an active and vibrant Libertarian party. The
first headline points out that Missouri Governor Matt Blunt’s office is
demanding a fee of approximately $540,000 from Missouri Attorney General Jay
Nixon’s office for emails necessary to an investigation of whether the governor
and his staff violated the state Sunshine Law by deleting old emails.

A Successful St. Louis Area Libertarian Caucus Meeting

Anti Eminent Domain Abuse Group Reaches Major Funding Goal

The grassroots effort to abolish eminent domain abuse in Missouri got a
major boost on Tuesday as Missouri Citizens for Property Rights announced it
has begun paid signature gathering for two constitutional amendments that will
prohibit the use of eminent domain for private profit.

A message to Ron Paul supporters from the Missouri LP

Though Ron Paul has been elected to Congress 10 times as a Republican and is
now running for the Republican Party nomination for President, he has deep
roots in the libertarian movement. Ron Paul was the Libertarian Party
Presidential candidate in 1988 and is a lifetime member of the party.

Be a county committee person for the Libertarian Party

Be a county committee person for the Libertarian Party. It's the kind
of job everyone wants--you don't have to do any work and you get a
title. (Sorry, no pay). There are some advantages to being a county committee person.
- A county committee person is automatically a voting member of the
Missouri Libertarian Party. Normally you have to contribute at least
$50 a year to be a voting member.
- You get to select who the Libertarian Party candidate is for
special elections to fill open elective offices where you live.

The Libertarian Party's Response to the State of the Union Address

Tonight's State of the Union address went much as expected. Instead of calling
for a more limited role of the federal government in American society, the
President laid out plans that would only increase the government's intervention
into the realm of economics, health care, education and foreign policy.

Libertarian Reelected Chairman of City Committee, Appointed to Another Committee in Grandview

In 2004, Mike
Ferguson was the Libertarian nominee for Missouri Lt. Governor. The Board of
Aldermen in his hometown of Grandview, Missouri liked what they saw in that
campaign enough to appoint him to the city's Transportation Committee in early
2005, which reviews all changes to ordinances that pertain to traffic, parking
and other safety issues.
